Oh, Lilly
November 15, 2009 | Category: Uncategorized, birthdays
You know Lilly is just such a funny child. So loud and demanding normally, but so shy and serious in front of strangers. So…well, loud and mournful and horrid in front of the camera normally, but so cute and adorable when it’s not her turn.
We were out shooting some of Isaiah and Madison for a commercial client this afternoon, and Lilly decided that Zai and Mads were not doing it properly and so she had to show them how it was done. Right at the end I let her get in front of the camera (because truthfully, going by past experiences I was not expecting anything) and she was just so funny. She told me “This is how you model.” Awwww.

What is more, she has actually developed quite bad eczema. I noticed it first on friday. I freaked out, because it was so bad it looked like measles (we did not let her have all of the vaccinations and Zoe is having none - so yeah, I was a bit EEEEEK). Thankfully though our doctor told it is was only eczema, but now I am trying to figure out how to treat it and calm down her skin. I had to edit her skin in the above photographs. It’s soooo spotty and red. Our doctor prescribed a cortisone cream, but I would really rather not put that on her skin! I just ordered some cream from xma.com.au so once that arrives I’ll see how it goes. Isaiah has eczema too but it’s only ever been quite mild. I’m a little thrown as Lilly has never shown signs of it before now! Any Mama’s with eczema experience, would appreciate any knowledge you can share with me
Oh, and I shouldn’t forget to mention that Lilly’s ADORABLE little top was made by my very clever Mum! I want her to make a teeny little one in Zoe’s size, lol, I think it would be so adorable.
I can’t finish this post without including the latest photograph of Zoe either! I took this late last week. It truly feels like I blinked and went from cradling a newborn to having a wriggling, can’t-wait-to-get-crawling 4 month old!

Hey Amanda, good choice not to use the cortisone cream!!! It’s kind of hard with eczema as it can have sooo many causes. Obviously it can be caused by dairy or wheat intolerance, stress but also washing powder, shower gels, perfumed body lotions etc. I started making my own cosmetics and soap about 9 years ago. There is an Indian plant oil called Chaulmoogra oil. It is highly antibacterial and really works wonders without any side effects! Good luck with finding out the cause and the right treatment!
And forgot to say - I love the photos - made me smile!
Poor Lilly! I had eczema for years when I was a kid - it spread all over the insides of my arms and thighs, and then made a brief appearance behind my knees. In the end, it was cortisone cream that helped, but I had to put it on regularly, and I hated it. Right now, I have a small bit of eczema on two fingers, but betamethasone keeps it under control. Good luck with the cream! Hope it goes away just as quickly as it appeared. <3
Also, Lilly’s top is TOO CUTE. And Zoe… well, she just keeps getting cuter, doesn’t she!
Oh poor Lily having eczma, not nice. My friend’s son has it and said the best thing she used on his eczma was nipple cream. She said it cleared it all up and stopped the itching. She looks so cute modelling too.
i agree with the above and would recommend perfume free wash/shower gel and practically anything that comes close to her skin, that includes washing detergent! my brother got it really bad from the wrong washing detergent, we used it for years and it appeared all of a sudden! ask your gp about a child allergy test as well!
the photos are lovely! cant believe how different zoe looks, all fair eyed and haired! gorgeous!
Fantastic photos!
And so sorry to hear about the eczema. We have dealt with this for quite a while now, and I guess I’m mirroring some of the comments above except that I would say first step is to try to find a CAUSE before eliminating stuff from your life/diet ad hoc.
My son developed hideous eczema quite suddenly at 3 months. (So bad it made the GP gasp. They see a lot of yuck in a day, so I guessed it was bad!) We quickly reached the point where I was using prescription only steroid creams on a daily basis, which I hated doing to him…. but having the eczema was worse. My GP believed that a cause for childhood eczema is rarely found, but pediatrician and I thought otherwise. We did a full elimination and challenge diet, and have managed to narrow down the problem to just one naturally-occurring food chemical, which means we now avoid certain foods. It was a REALLY hard thing to do, but absolutely worth it. I cannot remember when I last had to treat his eczema. He’s now two years old.
So,…. it could be soaps, perfumes, food, grasses/pollens, etc….. Some of those things can be tested with skin prick allergy testing, others cannot. The RPA Allergy unit website might be a good starting point for info.
Am happy to talk more/share more contacts on this. Email me if you want. Good luck!
oh my gosh too cute.. she is so funny.. while I have never met her or any of you.. I feel like you are all family I feel like I know you all so well.. ( thank you for that ) these photos are wonderful.. I dont really have any eczema advice though sorry
Our son has also suffered from severe Eczema from head to toe since he was just a few months old. It was really hard on him and on our whole family. He felt miserable and rarely slept due to the itching and bleeding at night. We tried the elimination diet several times but never could find what was triggering it. It just seemed so sporadic and he flared to everything. He was down to only eating chicken, peas and rice for many months and he was on all kinds of potent meds and creams. We had a big wake up call when he became very ill and lethargic and had to be admitted into a children’s hospital. The doc there told us that his allergist should have never put him on the amounts of steroids he was on for so long and that he was now steroid dependent.
It was a long process but finally - he was off and right around this time we our prayers were answered and we found something safe and natural that has made his Eczema nearly completely gone and has been free of it for a year…it is the children’s chewable probiotics Bellyboost from Vidzorb!!! It has made such a huge difference in our life and he now looks and feels fantastic! He can eat all kinds of foods too. I have a detailed story at my mom blog (”the most powerful bee” article) if you would like to come read it and we can talk more! I hope this helps you and your little ones.
Your daughter is so pretty by the way!

*try baking soda and pure olive oil in her bath too - it is a great natural moisturizer!
I cannot believe I spelled Vidazorb wrong! ACK!!! It is Vidazorb and it is the kids chewables called Bellyboost on their website. You can also get it at allergyfreeshop.com
*I just got typing so fast! LOL
Oh my your children are so adorable! Wasn’t Lilly just born??? Zoe is such a doll. Beautiful photographs as always!
ps. My Zach had bad eczema for awhile, I had to use some terrible steroid cream. I hope what you’ve found works!
Is Zoe curling her TONGUE??? Ohhh blessed children that are DARLING! I am freaking out over Lilly with her HANDS UP! Goodness sakes alive!
And more and more I see that we are twins. We haven’t vaccinated either!
And the eczema, from what Nate has worked on, seems to be a cow’s milk allergy. Try eliminating that and see how she does.
I have a child with Eczema, you might want to get her checked for allergies, apparently the two go hand in hand. Something no one told me till I was in the hospital with a 13 month old who almost died after eating a PB sandwich.
But to the point, Natural Shea butter is supposed to be THE best for treating Eczema. I have been through so many creams with mine and he screams because they burn, the only two he doesn’t mind is Gold Bond Ultimate Healing and the Shea butter, hope that helps.
I am so sorry for Lu and his/her child with peanut allergies. Our son has this too and I actually read somewhere the Shea Butter is a nut! Beware!!!
Again, a probiotic may really be worth investigating. I just want to share how great it has been for our little guy.
First of all - I applaud you for your decision to not immunize Zoe.
Secondly, cortisone cream is horrifying! I used it to deal with dry skin and it left me with permanent patches of brown across my side and back. An elimination diet would do far more than any kind of modern medicine ever would.
Good luck!
Poor peach with the spots! Clover gets terrible bouts of eczema and hers is all allergy related. We sometimes have to put the steroid cream on her when it gets to be open sores (which can happen in a matter of hours) but normally we can control it with lots and lots of heavy lotion and cotton long sleeve jammies to keep it on her skin. We also use bath oil for her…no soaps.
Hope it clears up soon.
